Dear Rockwell Automation Customer,

The purpose of this Product Service Advisory is to inform you of a functional issue that exists with:

  • 2711-x10x9 PanelView 1000 Color Series D Revision A and Gray Scale Series B Revision A, Communication option "9" DH485 (RS232)

  • This Advisory explains the functional issue and the steps being taken to rectify the situation.

    - Problem Description -

    With the 2711 PanelView 1000 Color Series D Revision A and Gray Scale Series B Revision A, the following functional issue exists:

    Functional Issue - Communications to the Logic Controller on DH485 (RS232) will be either intermittent or non-existent depending on the grounding connection on the communications port.

    In the PanelView 1000 Color Series D Revision A and the PanelView 1000 Gray Scale Series B Revision A, a re-designed motherboard was introduced by Rockwell Automation. The design of the motherboard inadvertently omitted proper ground on pin 5 of the RS232 port, causing the communications problems.

    - Product Identification -

  • Product affected by this Mandatory Product Service Advisory 2711-x10x9 PanelView 1000 Color Series D Revision A and Gray Scale Series B Revision A, Communication option "9" DH485 (RS232)
  • Identification information is on the Product Identification label located on the back of the product.

    - Problem Correction -

    The functional issue described above has been corrected in the following versions of the PanelView 1000:

  • 2711-x10x9 PanelView 1000 Color Series D Revision B and Gray Scale Series B Revision B. Any Firmware Revision.
  • -Requested Customer Action-

    Each notified customer should take the following actions:

  • Confirm that you have the affected products.
  • Immediately contact your local Rockwell Automation Sales and Support office to determine the appropriate course of action. Together, you and the local office will determine the correction for your situation. Returning the terminal for repair will allow us to correct the problem.
