Dear Rockwell Automation Customer,

The purpose of this Mandatory Product Safety Alert is to inform you of a potential safety issue that exists with the following Rockwell Automation product:

- Problem Description -

With the revisions of RSLogix 5000 Enterprise Series software listed in the table on page 1, hereafter referred to as RSLogix 5000 software, the following potential safety issue exists:

Safety Issue - Online Edits of a 1756-L63 ControlLogix™ Controller Produces Unpredictable Controller Operation

If you edit a ladder logic routine of a 1756-L63 ControlLogix controller while online, unpredictable controller operation could occur. The online edits could cause serious injury to personnel or damage to equipment.

The unpredictable operation may include, but is not limited to:

  • watchdog time of a task expires (major fault type 6, code 1)
  • controller failure (solid red OK LED)
  • -Temporary Workarounds -

    If you have a 1756-L63 ControlLogix controller:

    1. DO NOT edit its ladder logic routines while online. Perform all edits while offline and then perform a full download of the project.

    2. DO NOT upload the project.

    - Problem Correction -

    The potential safety issue described above has been corrected in the following versions of RSLogix 5000 software:

  • 10.02
  • 11.11
  • To edit the ladder logic of a 1756-L63 controller while online or upload the project, first complete the following actions:

    1. Update your RSLogix 5000 software to the following revision:

    If you have this revision of RSLogix 5000 software:	
    
    		10.00				
    		11.00				
    		11.01	
    		11.10
    
    Update it to this revision:
    		
    		10.02
    		11.11
    

    2. While offline, open the RSLogix 5000 project for the controller.

    3. Save the project.

    4. Download the project to the controller.

    - Requested Customer Action -

    You should take the following actions:

    1. Confirm that you have the affected products.

    2. Update your RSLogix 5000 software to the revision listed in the "Problem Correction" section on page 3. The software is available on the Rockwell Automation web site. To download updated software:

    a) Go to www.ab.com.

    b) Click Product Support.

    c) Click Software Updates.

    3. Complete the remaining steps listed in the "Problem Correction" section on page 3.
