Are You Properly Disposing of Lamps and Ballasts?

Wabash Electric Supply is now able to provide a solution for customers wanting to comply with EPA Federal Regulations. Practically every single fluorescent tube and HID lamp (high pressure sodium, mercury vapor and metal halide) contains mercury in such quantities that they cannot pass the federal Toxicity Characteristics Test (TCLP).

Introducing the. . . .

Lights Out Program

Through Wabash Electric's agreement with Mercury Waste Solutions, Inc., a lamp and ballast recycler, you can painlessly and inexpensively dispose of these types of lamps and ballasts by having them recycled and receive a Certificate of Conversion from the recycler.

The Process is Simple

Customers contact their nearest branch of Wabash Electric Supply and order containers to collect and store spent lamps. Next, Wabash Electric delivers the containers to the customer. When the container or containers are full, you simply follow the instructions on the "Call Tag" on the container to schedule pickup. MWS trucks come to your site to pickup the lamps and ballasts and complete the government required documentation. The lamps are transported to MWS's facility and your shipment is recycled under a $5,000,000 liability policy.

Customers pay for the containers when they are ordered. MWS will come to the customer's site, pickup and transport the lamps to their recycling center. At the recycling center, lamps are crushed and sieved. Using a distillation process, mercury is reclaimed and glass and metals are recycled. After the recycling is completed, a Certificate of Conversion is provided to the generator at no additional cost.

PCB and DEHP ballasts are picked up at the customer's facility, transported to MWS for consolidation, and then disposed of at an EPA approved high temperature incineration facility, permanently destroying all hazardous waste. Certificates of Destruction are provided and liability is minimized. Non-PCB ballasts are picked up and recycled for the customer.
